Older than the Pyramids

We began yet another day bright and early with a quick breakfast and plenty of coffee before heading back up to the University. This round faired considerably better in sticking to the initial layout of the day, with us all meeting up with Krister to see the department that focuses on Sami research. It was this department which gave us all some much sought after insight into the history, and current condition of the Sami world. We sat through three lectures, focusing on culture, history, and language, all of which was quite fascinating... however it was the event post lecture that really caught this bloggers eye.
Our afternoon took us to a museum that worked perfectly with the subjects of the day. There were artifacts collected, and documented for all to see, and a special treat which is represented in the picture above. At first glance it would appear to be some drift wood and maybe an old paddle of sorts, but as we came to understand it was actually the first set of skiis ever recorded, predating even the Pyramids! This set of skiis was but one of many things that showed us, for our own eyes sake, some of what we had all been reading about these past few weeks.
The tools and clothing of the Sami were well represented here, and I encourage any who snagged some good close up photos to attach them please!
